UK flooring specialist Durastic lands major deal with South Korean shipyard (WITH PICS)
UK marine flooring manufacturer Durastic has won a supply-and-installation deal on a major new North Sea platform being built by Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) in South Korea.
Durastic, which has branches in Liverpool, Jarrow and Southampton, UK, will supply and lay its seamless, fire-retardant underlay and flooring products in the cellar deck of a new platform under construction for BP’s £4.5billion Clair Ridge oilfield near the Shetland islands. Installation staff from Durastic will travel from the UK to HHI’s offshore yard near Ulsan on South Korea’s south-east coast. The team will include a project manager, underlay and top-surfacing specialists.
Durastic manager David Sinclair, who has overseen the project, said: “This latest work comes after a previous order with HHI to supply products for the Clair Ridge platform’s main module. This new deal will, again, showcase the quality and value-for-money of Durastic products, and the very best of our workmanship.
Mr Sinclair added “The benefits of Durastic underlays and coverings are that they are seamless, light weight, lay in one coating and clean. Meticulously manufactured and tested, the durability of flooring ensures expensive, disruptive and time-consuming maintenance is kept to a minimum, providing terrific value for money.
“Furthermore, the quality of Durastic products means they meet A60 fire-retardant safety and certification standards set by maritime organisations across the world including Lloyds of London, IMO and American Coastguard.”
The North Sea platform’s cellar deck will be laid with 528 sq metres of Durastic lightweight underlay. This exceptionally light underlay is used as a ‘screed’ to prepare steel decking surfaces for a final top flooring surface. (See Notes to Editors, 2)
Then 255 sq metres of Durastic Decorflake epoxy-resin covering will be laid, forming one of the main flooring surfaces for the cellar deck. Decorflake represents Durastic’s main business activity and has been developed at its Jarrow manufacturing base over the past 17 years. (See Notes to Editors, 3)
BP contacted Durastic about the Clair Ridge platform work following Durastic’s services on BP’s Valhal in the Norwegian North Sea.
