Port of Gdansk hosted deans of Polish universities' transport faculties
The 12th edition of this annual seminar gathering deans of the faculties educating transport logisticians and engineers was this year organised in the Tricity, PGA says in its press release. A task of preparing the seminar had been taken up by the Deans of the Faculty of Navigation and Professors of the Maritime Academy in Gdynia - Master Mariner Adam Weintrit, PhD. Eng. and Master Mariner Bogumil Laczynski, Ph.D. Eng. The event was held on November 3-5, 2014, under the honorary auspices of the Dean of the Deans, Professor Wojciech Wawrzynski, Ph.D. Eng. of the Faculty of Transport of the Warsaw University of Technology, gathering several dozens of lecturers representing 16 universities from all over Poland.
As a rule, the Forum of Academic Teachers offers the opportunity to exchange information regarding trends and developments in the transport industry, and provides a platform for discussing the methodology of teaching. It is of great significance that the wide-ranging experience is passed on by practitioners to scientists. On this occasion, the participants gained valuable insight from the lecture given by Director of the Maritime Office in Gdynia, Master Mariner Andrzej Krolikowski, Ph.D. Eng. entitled "The Impact of International Conventions on the Industrial and Maritime Transport Development". Master Mariner Jedrzej Mierzewski, DCT Gdansk Chief Operations Officer presented the operational conditions and development prospects of the Deepwater Container Terminal in the Northern Port of Gdansk. Renata Downar-Zapolska of the Gdansk University of Technology discussed the funding opportunities under the framework programme Horizon 2020, and Bartlomiej Bodio, Member of the Polish Parliament and Chairman of the Permanent Sub-Commission on air transport, maritime economy and inland shipping under the Infrastructure Commission, presented the possibilities of cooperation for research and development units under the Cluster of Smart Transport Systems.
The Forum attendees visited the simulators at the Maritime Academy in Gdynia, the Planetarium equipped with Poland's most modern Carl Zeiss ZKP-4 projector, the "Tristar" Traffic Control and Management Centre in Gdynia, and the European Solidarity Centre in Gdansk. Additionally, their busy schedule included a visit to the tower of the Harbour Master's Office in Gdansk. The visitors were welcomed by PGA SA President of the Board Dorota Rabenaccompanied by Director of the Port Strategy and Development Office Ryszard Mazur, and briefed on the current throughput capacity of the port facilities and on the guidelines for port's investment projects.
