Murmansk Region Governor Marina Kovtun calls on all Arctic regions to consolidate, press center of the regional government says.
“We call on all regions of Russia’s Arctic zone to consolidate so that our voice could be heard on the federal level and Arctic development plans were not placed on a shelf,” Marina Kovtun said.
In this respect Marina Kovtun has appealed for support to Arthur Chilingarov, special presidential representative for international cooperation in the Arctic and Antarctic, President of the Russian Association of Polar Explorers, who was an honoured guest of the III International Business Week in Murmansk.
During the working meeting Marina Kovtun and Arthur Chilingarov discussed further development of the Arctic zone, ways of cooperation of the Arctic regions between themselves and with the federal structures. The main polar explorer of the country has supported the thesis of the Murmansk Governor on the necessity to integrate the efforts of all Arctic regions for practical implementation of Russia’s Arctic zone development strategy the execution of which weakened after the abolishment of the Regional Development Ministry that was in charge of the Strategy implementation.
Arthur Chilingarov noted that a special state committee should be responsible for the development of Arctic projects while International Business Week in Murmansk could be further used as a traditional platform for discussions.
