UASC names first ever LNG-ready ultra large boxship at HHI Shipyard in Ulsan
United Arab Shipping Company named the industry’s first ever ultra large container vessel in Ulsan, Korea. MV Sajir is the first vessel in UASCs current newbuilding program, comprising 17 of the worlds most eco-efficient vessels, told IAA PortNews Kirill Tulenev, director of UASC Agency company in Russia.
With increased capacity of 15,000 TEU (A15), the DNV GL classed vessel is the largest and most eco-efficient vessel in this class. MV Sajir will start operating on the Asia - North Europe route after delivery.
New vessel class will provide considerable reducing of fuel utilization per sailing on the basis of innovative energy management technologies. According to preliminary indication the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) value is close to 50% below the 2025 limit of IMO standard.
Further to competitive energy efficiency new technologies will generally improve environmental sustainability - output of CO2 per TEU is 22% less than for 13,500 TEU vessel. A15 vessels of this class will be equipped with an approved ballast water treatment system, shore-to-ship power supply solutions enabling zero emissions at berth and hull stress monitoring system that guiding to the crew on current stress level in the ship structure during operation globally developing world standards of structural safety.
