YM Enlightenment, a 4,662 TEU full-container vessel built for Yang Ming by CSBC CORP., TAIWAN, was named at a ceremony held at CSBC Kaohsiung Shipyard on January 5, 2015. The ceremony was presided over by Charles Chen, the EVP of Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp., and Mr. Chen Lie-Lin, President of CSBC CORP., TAIWAN. Ms. Liu Yuh-Ching was invited to sponsor the new ship, the company said in its press release.
YM Enlightenment is the third of five 4,662 TEU full-container vessels built for Yang Ming by CSBC CORP. This type of vessel is eco-friendly. The new ship is 259 meters in length, 37.3 meters in width. It has 400 reefer plugs and a draft of 12.8 meters. The vessel can cruise at a speed up to 22.9 knots.
Yang Ming strives not only for environmental protection but also for lowering the average age of its ships. The new generation ships incur lower operational costs and consume energy more efficiently. YM Enlightenment is to be deployed in the CPX Service (China - Pakistan Express). Her ports of call are in this order: Shanghai – Ningbo–Shekou – Singapore – Karachi – Mundra – Port Kelang – Singapore – Hong Kong – Shanghai
