In 2014, the port of Klaipeda (Lithuania) handled 36.41 mln t of cargo (+9%, year-on-year), press center of the port authority says. Transshipment of fertilizers climbed by 39.2% to 11.9 mln t, containers – up 23% to 5.6 mln t, grain - up 27.9% to 2.9 mln t, oil products – down 12.7% to 6.2 mln t, construction materials – down 44.9% to 1.2 mln t.
In December, the port handled 2.99 mln t of cargo (+8.2%, year-on-year).
Klaipeda State Seaport is the northernmost ice–free port on the Eastern coast of the Baltic Sea. It is the most important and biggest Lithuanian transport hub, connecting sea, land and railway routes from East to West. The port’s throughput (including Butinge terminal) made 33.42 mln t in 2013.
