On January 29, interactive classroom of Maersk was opened at Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping, IAA PortNews journalist reports.
The event attended by Ambassador of Denmark in the Russian Federation Thomas Winkler, CEO of Maersk Russia Tom Hyldelund and Russia Cluster Sales Manager at Maersk Line Zsolt Katona.
According to Sergei Baryshnikov, Rector of Makarov University, the opening of the interactive classroom is not the first successful experience of cooperation between the business and the University.
He noted that Maersk is the leading company in shipping arrangement and logistics.
“As the University trains specialists in these sectors it is important to ensure that the students are able to profit from the experience of such a company. The cadets should understand the port operation process, specific aspects of cargo transportation, surveyor’s work etc.,” Sergei Baryshnikov said. This classroom will let them get this knowledge, he emphasised.
Thomas Winkler, Ambassador of Denmark in the Russian Federation, said the opening of the classroom is an example of Maersk activities in Russia.
“The Company is engaged not only in business but also participates in socially significant activities as the future of cadets depends on the level of their education,” he said.
Within the framework of the event, cadets of the University took part in a live link-up with the representatives of Maersk in China.
The classroom is intended for training of the cadets studying at the International Transport Management Department. The Company specialists are supposed to participate in preparing the cadets for work at Maersk which operates in different sectors of economy.
Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping (SUMIS) was organized in 2012 by merging of two famous higher educational institutions – the Admiral Makarov State Maritime Academy and the Saint-Petersburg State University for Waterway Communications.
Maersk Line is the world's largest container shipping company owing about 470 boxships and 1.9 mln containers. The network of the Company’s representative offices covers 125 countries.
