Far East Basin to account for 30% of container throughput in Russian seaports by 2020

The share of the Far East Basin in total container throughput of Russian seaports may increase from current 23% to 25-30% by 2020. According to IAA PortNews journalist, this forecast was made by Andrey Narayevsky, Development Director of RUSCON, at the Conference “Transport Service Industry and Development of Far East Transport Infrastructure” in Moscow.

According to him, new players operating international container lines will enter the Far East region.

Andrey Narayevsky also said that major challenges of container transportation via the Far East region include the two-way loading of container trains, balancing of domestic export/import traffic, acceleration of container turnover rates and rendering services on long storage of containerized cargo.

According to the expert, 65% of containers imported via the Far East go to the Moscow region today, 15% to the North West region, 8% - to the Southern region and 5% to Primorje.
