Throughput of port Ventspils (Latvia) down 18.7% to 4.8 mln t in Jan-Feb’15

In January-February 2015, the port of Ventspils handled 4.8 mln t of cargo (-18.7%, year-on-year), the port authority informs.  In February, the port handled 2.2 mln t of cargo.

Despite of quite cautious forecast as regards the port’s throughput in 2015 and further budget cutback, the Freeport of Ventspils is not going to increase port service charges and will continues investmenting into maintenance and development of port infrastructure, the statement says.

Compared to the previous year, three out of ten terminals at the Freeport of Ventspils increased their throughput in January-February 2015: Noord Natie Ventspils Terminals –21%, Ventall Termināls - 20%, Ventspils Grain Terminal – handled 29,000 t of cargo (no cargo was handled by this terminal in January-February 2014).

The following terminals showed the decrease: Kālija parks - 87%, Baltic Coal Terminal - 28%, Ventbunkers - 35%, Ventspils Nafta termināls - 6%, Ventspils tirdzniecības osta - 19%, Ventamonjaks serviss - 26%, Ventplac - 13%.

Ventspils port is located near Venta river. There are terminals for loading and unloading of crude and oil products, liquid chemicals and fertilizers, metal and coal, timber and fish, containers and Ro-Ro trailers. In 2014, the port handled 26.02 mln t of cargo (-9%, year-on-year).
