Commercial Seaport of Korsakov and Baltmorproekt (Saint-Petersburg) have signed an agreement on the development of feasibility study documentation for the increase of the port’s annual capacity by 3.1 mln t, Sergei Smirnov, Financial Director of Commercial Seaport of Korsakov OJSC, told IAA PortNews.
Total investments into the project are estimated at RUB 31.8 bln.
The Company’s deputy Director General Karina Mamedova says the project is supported by the federal and regional authorities as its implementation will let improve cargo handling rates, handle ocean class vessels and make the port the largest round-the-year port in Sakhalin.
Implementation of the investment programme will also generate 300 new jobs in the port and up to 1,500 jobs in the town of Korsakov.
Seaport of Korsakov is located on the shores of the Aniva Bay in the Sea of Okhotsk. CSP of Korsakov is the largest seaport in Sakhalin. It handles 70% of the cargo flow and carries passengers between the Kuril Islands and Japan. In 2014, the port handled 1.2 mln t of cargo.
