Volga Shipping Company OJSC has held a ceremonial opening of navigation period on the Upper Volga. According to the Company’s press center, 3 motor vessels of the Volgo-Don type and 2 push-tugs bound for Cherepovets (for loading with metal scrap) have passed the gateways today.
Navigation on the Lower Volga opened on March 25. As of today, 30 units of the Company’s fleet operate in the Southern region (Lower Volga and Azov-Don Basin): Volgo-Don vessels, new vessels of ‘Kapitan’ series (Project RSD44), push-tugs.
The Company’s vessels are currently engaged in transportation of sulphur and grain to port Kavkaz.
Volga Shipping OJSC is one of the biggest transport companies in Russia. It was founded in 1843. The company transports cargoes along rivers and lakes of the country. In 2014, Volga Shipping carried 6.3 mln t of cargo.
