Throughput of Nikolaev Sea Trade Port (Ukraine) up 0.6% to 6.92 mln t in Jan-Apr’15

In January-April 2015, Nikolaev Sea Trade Port handled 6.92 mln t of cargo (+0.6%, year-on-year), the Cetre for Transport Strategies (CTS) reported citing the Authority of Ukraine Seaports.

Handling of liquid bulk cargo dropped 20.7% to 780,000 t. Petroleum products shipments shank by 19.2% to 357,000, vegetable oil – by 26.8% to 354,000 t.

The volume of dry bulk cargo in the reporting period rose 2.8% to 4.89 mln t, coal transshipment totaled 481,000 t (-33.8%), coke – 254,000 t (up в 2.2 times), ore – 1.354 mln t (-4.6%), grain – 2.26 mln t (+8.6%).

In the reported period, the port hanled 1.253 mln t of break bulk cargo (+9.7%, year-on-year) including 1.03 mln t of metal (-5.4%), 136,000 t of ferrous metal scrap (up 5.2 times) and 68,000 t of cast iron.

Port of Nikolayev (Port of Mykolayiv) was found in 1789. The port is located at the mouth of the Southern Buh River and has an access to the Black Sea through a 44-mile shipping canal. The port is a key transportation hub in Ukraine’s southern region. The port stevedore company is the state-owned company Sea Trading Port of Nikolayev specializing in handling general and bulk cargoes, grain, ore, metal, pipes, etc. The port has indoor and outdoor warehouses and operates 15 berths equipped with rail tracks.
