  Torlak Shipping shipyard backs Russian candidate for IMO leadership

  

  A Turkey based shipyard Torlak Shipping will support Vitaly Klyuev, a candidate from Russia nominated for the IMO Secretary-General, a source at the shipyard familiar with the matter told IAA PortNews.  

  "We would like to wish Mr. Klyuev luck and success in the coming elections for the IMO Secretary-General post. As Mr. Klyuev is currently undertaking a great job to ensure safety of sea and inland transportation in Russia, his experience is sure to provide the best safety measures for international shipping, which in turn, will be the key to clean and safe maritime navigation.”

  “We will be happy to provide our support to Mr. Klyuev and his entire election campaign", the IAA PortNews correspondent quoted the shipbuilding company's representative as saying.

  The election for the IMO Secretary-General post will be held in June 2015. The new Secretary-General of the IMO will take office on January 1, 2016. There are six candidates nominated by different countries.

  The London, UK headquartered International Maritime Organization (IMO) is a specialised agency of the United Nations with 171 Member States and three Associate Members. The IMO's primary purpose is to develop and maintain a comprehensive regulatory framework for shipping and its remit today includes safety, environmental concerns, legal matters, technical co-operation, maritime security and the efficiency of shipping.
