The Coast Guard medevaced a crewman Thursday suffering heart complications aboard a motor vessel southeast of Cape Hatteras, the USCG said in a news release.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector North Carolina in Wilmington received a call from the Joint Rescue Coordination Center of Norway at about 6:30 p.m., indicating a 54-year-old male aboard the 760-foot, Norway-flagged, vehicle carrier Tijuca was experiencing problems associated with a heart condition approximately 30 miles southeast of Cape Hatteras.
A Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew launched from Air Station Elizabeth City. The helicopter crew met the vessel approximately 25 miles southeast of Cape Hatteras and lowered a rescue swimmer.
The man was hoisted to the helicopter in a rescue basket and flown to Beaufort, where he was placed in the care of awaiting local EMS, then taken to Craven Regional Medical Center in New Bern.
