In January-July 2015, the port of Liepaja (Latvia) handled 3,071,100 t of cargo (+3.2%, year-on-year), IAA PortNews was informed by the port authority. Transshipment of grain fell by 1.2% to 1,419,900 t, construction materials – up 5.9% to 327,200 t, timber – up 25.5% to 330,900 t, oil – down 61.3% to 33,300 t, oil products – up 23.8% to 149,000 t.
The port’s container throughput dropped by 14% to 1,876 TEUs. Transshipment of ro-ro cargo climbed by 3% to 21,595 units. Passenger turnover climbed by 3% to 25,448 passengers. The number of calls fell by 2% to 798 calls.
The port of Liepaja established in 1990-ies is the third busiest port of Latvia. Half of its turnover is formed by oil products and dry loose cargo from CIS countries, mainly Belarus. In 2014, the port of Liepaja handled 5.29 mln tonnes of cargo.
