Throughput of port Liepaja (Latvia) up 7.2% to 3.96 in 9M’15

In January-September 2015, the port of Liepaja (Latvia) handled 3,962,500 t of cargo (+7.2%, year-on-year), IAA PortNews was informed by the port authority.

Transshipment of grain climbed by 7.9% to 1,871,200 t, construction materials – up 10.5% to 447,500 t, timber – up 15.9% to 400,000 t, crude – down 62.8% to 39,300 t, oil products – up 29.5% to 182,100 t..

The port’s container throughput fell by 12% to 2,473 TEUs.  Transshipment of ro-ro cargo climbed by 3% to 26,789 units. Passenger turnover fell  by 2% to 32,301 passengers. The number of calls fell by 2% to 1,006 calls.
The port of Liepaja established in 1990-ies is the third busiest port of Latvia. Half of its turnover is formed by oil products and dry loose cargo from CIS countries, mainly Belarus. In 2014, the port of Liepaja handled 5.29 mln tonnes of cargo.
