Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg handled 6.2 mln t of cargo in 9M’15

Within  9 months of 2015 OJSC “Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg” (SP SPb) handled 6.2 mln tons of cargoes which is similar to the indicator of the previous year, the Company’s press center says. 

Handling volumes of general cargoes in the company increased by 8% up to 5 mln tons mainly due to the increase of handling volumes of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Due to increase of export volumes of steel of iron and steel companies handling volumes of ferrous metals of SP SPb amounted to 2 mln tons which is by 19% more than volumes of 9 months of 2014. Handling volumes of non-ferrous metals in the port increased by 23% up to 1.1 mln tons which was caused by the growth of export shipments of aluminum. 

Within 9 months of 2015 SP SPb handled 0.3 mln of ro-ro cargoes which is by 34% less than the same indicator of 2014. Dynamics was caused by the decrease of import delivered aboard the vessels of ferry lines including new cars, food products on trailers and some small shipment lots of cargoes.  

Handling volumes of reefer cargoes- deep-frozen meat and fish – increased by 3.6 times up to 47.5 th. tons.

Within the reporting period SP SPb handled also project, heavy-lift and oversized cargoes, wooden pellets, cargoes for agricultural industry and other general cargoes. 

Handling of loose and bulk cargoes in SP SPb decreased by 25% to 1.2 mln tons mainly due to the decrease of handling volumes of mineral fertilizers. These volumes decreased two times to 0.4 mln. tons due to redistribution of the turnover to the specialized terminals of Russia and Baltic countries. Handling volumes of alumina of SP SPb increased by 10% and amounted to 0.6 mln. tons. 

Within the reporting period export turnover of SP SPb decreased by 2% to 5.2 mln tons, import volumes decreased by 13% to 1 mln tons.  Share of export in the structure of the turnover of the company amounted to 84%, import share amounted to 16%.

OJSC “Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg” (included in UCL Port – stevedoring division of the International transportation group UCL Holding) – is the largest operator, rendering services on handling of all types of dry cargoes in the Greater Port of Saint-Petersburg.  It operates by modern multipurpose specialized terminals for handling of general and bulk cargoes and specialized terminals for ro-ro cargoes. In 2014 the turnover of the company amounted to 8.1 mln tons.
