Ceremonial keel-laying of the lead 42К Arctic Shuttle Tanker being built to the order of PAO Sovcomflot at Samsung Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (Korean Republic) was held on October 26, 2015, the Company’s press center says.
Al the tankers in the series of six ships will be named after the famous Russian researchers of the Arctic including those who participated in the Great Northern expedition of the 18the century.
The ships will be built to the joint class of RS and LR. Sovcomflot is the owner of the three tankers in the series.
Al the tankers are intended for round-the-year operation in the high latitude areas under the temperature of up to – 45 °С. Technical supervision is being carried out the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) at the shipyard of Samsung Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. The ships have been designed in compliance with RS requirements as well as international norms and standards. The tankers will transport crude oil from the Ob Bay area to the port of Murmansk.
The construction is to be completed and the lead tanker is to be delivered in late June 2016. The completion of the series is scheduled for 2017.
