APL has been named Container Line of the Year and won the Investment in the Future Award at the Lloyd’s List Asia Awards 2015 on 28 October 2015. The former recognises the liner’s exceptional performance in ship operations. The latter acknowledges APL’s outstanding training and education programmes for its employees and seafarers.
APL’s fleet renewal programme was deemed as a merit for Container Line of the Year award. The initiative has provided APL with economies of scale and fuel efficiency, and enabled the carrier to compete with lower slot costs. APL also fared well for its focus on yield optimisation and outstanding on-time performance in recent months.
The spirit of the Investment in the Future Award embodies APL’s belief in investing for the future. In 2014, APL invested over 7% of its total manning crew costs into training its shipboard and shore-based staff. It also developed a training course on the new technology on board its newbuildings for its crew to fill the training gaps in traditional programmes.
The Lloyd’s List Award series recognises the industry’s successes, setting a benchmark for excellence while rewarding innovative ideas and concepts that have pushed the boundaries of what is possible.
