In January-October 2015, the port of Liepaja (Latvia) handled 4,624,500 t of cargo (+8%, year-on-year), IAA PortNews was informed by the port authority.
Transshipment of grain climbed by 7.4% to 2,290,500 t, construction materials – up 11.5% to 496,900 t, timber – up 16.3% to 424,500 t, crude – down 61.5% to 45,300 t, oil products – up 29.5% to 199,100 t.
The port’s container throughput fell by 3% to 3,010 TEUs. Transshipment of ro-ro cargo fell by 5% to 29,169 units. Passenger turnover fell by 4% to 34,901 passengers. The number of calls fell by 3% to 1,108 calls.
The port of Liepaja established in 1990-ies is the third busiest port of Latvia. Half of its turnover is formed by oil products and dry loose cargo from CIS countries, mainly Belarus. In 2014, the port of Liepaja handled 5.29 mln tonnes of cargo.
