Training of Georgy Titov rescue ship and AS-36 deepwater rescue module crews to last for several days

On November 18, the crew of the AS-36 deepwater rescue module started their training course on dealing with a simulated submarine emergency in the Kola bay, says press center of RF Defence Ministry.

During their training they will cover such elements as the organization of deployment of the deepwater module by the Georgy Titov rescue ship, and maneuvering and moving of the module while surfaced.

Deepwater rescue crews’ calculations will also cover fore-and-aft trimming, immersion to set depths, maneuvering, and searching for the sunken object using a hydroacoustic station.

One of the most difficult exercises the rescue team will complete is landing the deepwater module onto the coaming platform set 50 metres deep – a special tool designed to insure airtight docking of the rescue module with the submarine’s hull.

The deepwater module crew will also practice carrying out a number of tasks connected to examining and repairing the hull.

The crew of the Georgy Titov rescue ship (which carries the deepwater module) will train a medical support group to use decompression equipment to provide adequate medical support to submarine crew members rescued from underwater depths.

The training of the Georgy Titov rescue ship and the AS-36 deepwater rescue module crews will be conducted in the Kola bay for several days.
