Companies already in operation can be residents of Free Port of Vladivostok

Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East will develop a model allowing the existing companies work under the Law on Free Port of Vladivostok press center of the Primorsky Territory Government cites Aleksandr Galushka, Minister for the Development of the Russian Far East, as saying at the meeting held on November 23.

The meeting on implementation of the Law on Free Port of Vladivostok headed by Aleksandr Galushka was attended by representatives of Far East authorities, public organizations and business community of the Primorsky Territory. One of the issues raised up by the business representatives related to the possibility of the existing but not newly established companies obtain the status of Free Port of Vladivostok resident. Aleksandr Galushka said the Ministry was developing a special model for that purpose.

“As of today, only newly established companies can become residents of the Free Port. …We are interested in supporting all the initiatives significant for the territory development. It is important to have more projects. At the first meeting of the Supervisory Board of the Free Port of Vladivostok we considered the issue of granting the status of Free Port of Vladivostok resident to the operating companies. Later we discussed the issue with Deputy Prime Minister Yury Trutnev, Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District. We agreed on proposing a model allowing the companies already in operation become the residents of Free Port under the projects on modernization and development,” he said.

The Minister said amendments can be introduced into the Law on Free Port of Vladivostok if necessary. The model is to be discussed at the next meeting of the Supervisory Board.

Yury Trutnev, Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District, has recently ordered to simplify the procedure for obtaining the status of Free Port of Vladivostok resident. As of today, applications should be considered within 15 days.

According to Yury Trutnev, it is important to find out what prevents the companies from applying for the Free Port Resident status.

Federal Law on the Free Port of Vladivostok came into effect on October 12, 2015. The free port legislation will be applicable for 15 municipalities of the Primorsk Territory including their water areas. Total area of the free zone is 28,400 square kilometers with population of 1.4 mln people.
