Ukraine's seaports cargo volumes in 2015 rose 1.4% to 144.82 million tonnes

Freight traffic at sea ports of Ukraine from January through December 2015 increased by 1.4% year-on-year and totaled 144,8 million tonnes, the state-owned Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority statistics showed.

Handling of exports amounted to 104.2 million tonnes (- 0.6% y-o-y) while import cargo shipments rose 13.2% to 18.97 million tonnes. In 2015 the volume of transit cargo dropped by 23.4% to 15.8 million tonnes, of short sea traffic – soared by 96.8 6 million to 6,8 million tonnes.

State port operators of the Ministry of Infrastructure handled nearly 49 million tonnes or 33.8% of the total throughput. Other stevedoring companies, largely mostly privately owned entities, handled at all berths, piers 95.8 million tonnes of different cargoes (66.2% of the total), and at the USPA's owned berths – nearly 51 million tonnes (35.2% of the total).

Container traffic at the country's seaports declined by 28% to 482,162 TEUs.

The leading Port pf Izmail contributed to the overall growth in 2015, handling 56% more cargo as compared to 2014. Port of Berdyansk throughput jumped by 39.2%. Other ports freight traffic figures are as follows: Port of Belgorod-Dniester (+17%), Nikolaev (+6.8%), Kherson (+6% ), Odessa (+4.1%), Yuzhny Port (+2.4%).
