Port of Singapore's throughput in 2015 down 1% to 574.9 million tonnes

Cargo volumes handled at the Port of Singapore for the 12 month of 2015 edged down by 1% year-on-year to 574.9 million tonnes, the Port Authority statistics show.

The volume of oil cargo grew by 7.3% to 194.93 million tonnes, while container throughput fell by 8.7% to 30.92 million TEUs.

Singapore is the city-state located on an island in the South-East Asia. Port of Singapore is the world's busiest port in terms of total shipping tonnage. Singapore also transships a fifth of the world's shipping containers as the world's busiest container port, half of the world's annual supply of crude oil, and is the world's busiest transshipment port. In 2014, container traffic at Port of Singapore reached 33,87 TEUs, total cargo throughput was 581,270,000 tonnes.
