Commissioning of some systems is going on at IB Polaris built by Arctech Helsinki Shipyard to the order of Finnish Transport Agency, Markku Kajosaari, Senior Vice President of Arctech Helsinki Shipyard, told journalist during a tour onboard the ship on January 27, 2016.
“Some systems onboard the ship are being tested now. In the machinery compartment they are testing the piping systems, check the tightness of pipes and valves, hold the pressure tests to ensure that all the connections are in proper order. Upon completion of this work, we can start engine and test the electrical systems”, he said.
Polaris has been at the shipyard’s outfitting quay for 2 weeks already, reminded Mr. Kajosaari.
He also said that recently delivered bridge consoles are about to be placed in proper places following which connection of cables is to be done and checked.
According to him, the commissioning is going step by step, system by system, parallel to area outfitting works. Interior outfitting is also in progress. The cabins of the Chief Engineer and the Captain are being covered with panels while prefabricated cabins for the crew had been delivered by trucks from Turku and lifted onboard the icebreaker before it was launched. “It is good to have modular cabins made in heated and clean conditions”, explained Markku Kajosaari.
