In January-December 2015, the companies of the stevedoring division of UCL Port (part of UCL Holding) handled 32.2 million tons of cargo, which is a 9% increase as compared to 2014, says press center of UCL Holding.
According to the statement, the increase in the total cargo volume handled by the division was driven by the increase in export cargo flows by 11% to 28.9 mln t.
As compared with the year of 2014, all the types of cargo demonstrated positive dynamics: oil cargo (+15% - to 7.8 mln t), general cargo (+10% - to 9.1 mln t), containerized cargo (+18% - to 5 mln t, or +5% - to 423,000 TEUs). Transshipment of dry loose and bulk cargo increased by 1% to 11.3 mln t. Total dry cargo transshipment climbed by 7% to 25.4 mln t.
In the reporting period, there was a change in the cargo turnover structure of 2 percentage points in favour of the exported goods share as compared to 2014, the exports share in the total transshipment volume increased to 87%, imported cargo flows accounted for 12.5%, coastal traffic operations – 0.5%.
The highest growth was demonstrated in container transshipment due to increased handling of export cargo by Container Terminal Saint-Petersburg to 211,100 TEUs (+5.5%, year-on-year) including the growth in exports of loaded containers by 94.6%, year-on-year. The terminal is thus the second busiest terminal in Russia in terms of total container throughput. It is also one of few container terminals in Russia that has managed to increase its throughput against 2014, the statement says.
According to the statement, the increase in transshipment of oil cargo should be attribute mainly to the increase of Rosneft cargo flow to Tuapse, including transshipment of new cargo - vacuum gasoil and introduction of two newly reconstructed berths of Tuapse Commercial Seaport.
As for general cargo, the highest growth (+18% to 5 mln t) was demonstrated in the sector of ferrous metal shipments from Saint-Petersburg and Tuapse. Transshipment of non-ferrous metal increased by 16% to 1.4 mln t driven by increased exports of aluminum by Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg.
Dry bulk and loose cargo handling saw slight increase. Coal transshipment grew by 6% to 7.5 mln t in Tuapse and at Multipurpose Reloading Complex. Transshipment of grain in Tuapse and Taganrog increased by 7% to 2.1 mln t. Handling of mineral fertilizers demonstrated negative dynamics – down 56% to 0.5 mln t, which is connected with a redistribution of cargo flows in favour of specialized terminals in Russia and the Baltic countries.
