BMW’s soon-to-open processing facility at the Port of Galveston, Texas, in the United States will have the capacity to handle 2,000 cars daily and has a target to process 32,000 cars annually, WWL said in its press release.
The facility, which includes more than 44,000 square feet (4,100 square metres) of processing space covering 20 acres (eight hectares) of land, will be dedicated to servicing imported BMW and Mini cars from Europe and making them ready for distribution to the carmaker’s dealer network in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Arkansas.
About 32 WWL employees and a handful of staff from BMW North America will work at the site, providing services such as washing, vehicle quality inspections and accessorisation.
“Rapid delivery to our customers and dealers is a key element to exceptional customer service,” says Craig Westbrook, aftersales vice president of BMW North America. “Once fully operational, the new Port of Galveston Vehicle Distribution Center will enable us to receive, prepare and deliver vehicles to the southern region even more quickly than before.”
The site is in the final stages of construction and is due to open in April 2016.
