Port of Singapore throughput down 10.5% to 44.66 mln t in Jan'16

Cargo volumes handled at the Port of Singapore in January 2016 edged down by 10.5% year-on-year to 44.66 million tonnes, the Port Authority statistics show.

The volume of oil cargo fell by 14.4% to 14.14 million tonnes, while container throughput fell by 10.6% to 2.29 million TEUs.

Singapore is the city-state located on an island in the South-East Asia. Port of Singapore is the world's busiest port in terms of total shipping tonnage. Singapore also transships a fifth of the world's shipping containers as the world's busiest container port, half of the world's annual supply of crude oil, and is the world's busiest transshipment port. In 2015, container traffic at Port of Singapore reached 30,92 TEUs, total cargo throughput was 575 million tonnes.
