Today, reconnaissance group of the Northern Fleet Arctic motorized rifle brigade came back to home base in Alakurtti after an extreme expedition along the White Sea coast, says press center of RF Defence Ministry.
On February 16-22, the reconnaissancemen escorted the expedition of Fedor Konyukhov, a famous Russian explorer, on the route from Petrozavodsk to Onega through lakes and woods of Karelia to Luda village, near Severodvinsk, on three A-1 military snowmobiles. The expedition passed 70-90 kilometers daily.
They stopped for the night as in settlements and villages as in tents. Each serviceman was fitted with arctic uniform and a sleeping bag. The expedition spent a night in the building of the Chesmensky lighthouse.
The expedition reached the destination point on February 22. The expedition participants visited Severstal, the largest underwater missile carrier in the world.
