Kalmar to deliver 19 hybrid shuttle carriers to APM Terminals' newest container terminal in Italy
Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has received an order for 19 hybrid shuttle carriers from APM Terminals for their newest container terminal that is under construction in Vado, Italy. The machines will be delivered during 2017.
APM Terminals' deepwater Vado container terminal will be the world's first container terminal to employ an entirely hybrid shuttle carrier fleet. The Kalmar HSH240 hybrid shuttle carriers will help APM Terminals to optimise the productivity of their terminal by decoupling waterside and landside operations. The hybrid machines have been designed with an advanced regenerative energy system that converts energy from operational braking and lowering of the spreader into electric power which is then captured and stored through new and innovative battery technology. An automated computer-assisted power system determines the most efficient balance between the diesel engine and battery power.
The Port of Vado is located in northwestern Italy, near the major Italian commercial and population center of Genoa. The facility is scheduled to become operational in January 2018 with the ability to handle 18,000 TEU vessels.
Kalmar offers the widest range of cargo handling solutions and services to ports, terminals, distribution centres and to heavy industry.
