Throughput of port Liepaja (Latvia) up 6.2% to 997,100 t in Jan-Feb'16

In January-February 2016, the port of Liepaja (Latvia) handled 997,100 t of cargo (+6.2%, year-on-year), the port authority told IAA PortNews.

Transshipment of grain climbed by 3.4% to 554,600 t, construction materials – up 21.1% to 79,900 t, timber – down 23.6% to 74,600, crude – down 12.2% to 8,600 t, oil products – down almost 1.5 times to 44,200 t.

The port’s container throughput fell by 27% to 358 TEUs.  Transshipment of ro-ro cargo declined by 1% to 4,600 units. Passenger turnover fell by 13% to 4,450 passengers. The number of calls climbed by 4% to 227 calls.
The port of Liepaja established in 1990-ies is the third busiest port of Latvia. Half of its turnover is formed by oil products and dry loose cargo from CIS countries, mainly Belarus. In 2015, the port of Liepaja handled 5.61 mln tonnes of cargo.
