Port of Mariupol two-month cargo volumes sink more than 40% to 767,000 tonnes
Freight traffic at Donetsk region, Ukraine based Port of Mariupol between January and February 2016 fell by 41.3% compared to the same period of 2015 to 767,000 tonnes, the Center for Transport Policies said citing statistics from the Ukraine's Sea Ports Authority.
There was a 74.7-percent drop in liquid bulk segment (oil) to 6,000 tonnes, while dry bulk traffic plummeted by 86.2% and totaled 78,000 tonnes. The dry cargo volume handled at the port includes 15,000 tonnes of coal (-91.5%), 47,000 tonnes of cereals (-2.5%, 35,000 tonnes of grain, + 37%), etc.
The port handled 683,000 tonnes of break bulk cargo (-5.2%), 200,000 tonnes of iron (+ 44.9%), 315,000 tonnes of rolled metal (+ 29.1%), more than 2 million tonnes of other ferrous metals (-19.7%).
State-owned Mariupol Sea Trading Port is the fourth largest port in Ukraine, a gateway for intermodal transport routes. The port annual capacity exceeds 17 million tonnes. The Port of Mariupol can accommodate merchant vessels with length of 240 meters and draft up to 8 meters. The Port encompasses 73.2 hectares with modern terminals / facilities and 42-km-long quay wall.
