Krylov State Research Center to develop documentation for port icebreaker АARC 124 under Yamal LNG project

Krylov State Research Center (FSUE KSRC Saint-Petersburg) has won a competition for the right to sign an agreement on providing of design services for construction and delivery of port icebreaker of Project AkerARC (АARC)124 to be deployed at port Sabetta (Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District) under Yamal LNG Project, Krylov Center  told IAA PortNews. The competition was announced by Vyborg Shipyard (United Shipbuilding Corporation). The icebreaker is to be built to the order of FSUE Atomflot. 

KSRC is currently taking part in development of Aker ARC 124 technical design carried out by Aker Arctic Technology Inc. (Helsinki, Finland). Krylov Center is designing ship's service and power plant systems.

A 10 MW icebreaker with an innovative propulsion system consisting of four thrusters (two in the stern and two in the bow, 2.5MW each) is intended for operation at port Sabetta under on the Yamal peninsula.

Major tasks of the icebreaker are: 
- escorting of LNG carriers along the access channel; 
- icebreaking operations within the port; 
- assisting LNG carriers within the harbor; 
- icebreaking at the access channel and within the port’s water area.

Besides, the vessel will be able to fulfill the following tasks: 
- oil spill response activities; 
- assistance do LNG carriers’ handling operations; 
- firefighting; 
- deck cargo transportation; 
- towing operations.
