In January-March 2016, the port of Liepaja (Latvia) handled 1,444,500 t of cargo (+5.8%, year-on-year), the port authority told IAA PortNews.
Transshipment of grain climbed by 7.8% to 760,500 t, construction materials – down 7% to 114,800 t, timber – down 27.7% to 117,100 t, oil – up 15.9% to 14,600, oil products – up 28.3% to 63,500 t.
The port&RSquo;s container throughput fell 1.7 to 429 TEUs, transshipment of ro-ro cargo climbed by 6% to 7,916 units. Passenger turnover fell by 6% to 7,609 peRSons. The number of calls declined by 1% to 344 calls.
The port of Liepaja established in 1990-ies is the third busiest port of Latvia. Half of its turnover is formed by oil products and dry loose cargo from CIS countries, mainly Belarus. In 2015, the port of Liepaja handled 5.61 mln tonnes of cargo.
