Keel-laying of 22800-series missile boat at Morye Shipyard slated for May 10

A keel laying ceremony for fast attack guided missile craft of Project 22800 will be held at the yard of Feodosia, Crimea based shipbuilding company "Morye", May 10, 2016. Under the order of the Russian Navy's Commander-in-Chief the new generation fast attack craft will be named "Storm". The ceremony will be attended by representatives of the Navy's Headquarters, the Defense Ministry's press office reported.

The 22800 series missile boat was designed by Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau to the requirements of the Navy's High Command. The vessels will have a displacement of about 800 tonnes, maximum speed of more than 30 knots and state-of-the-art high-precision missiles and artillery systems.

The design incorporates the following features high maneuverability, high seaworthiness and superstructure and hull stealth technology. The missile craft is able to perform tasks in the maritime zone 3,000 nm off the ship homeport.

Earlier, St. Petersburg based Pella Shipyard had laid keels for two fast attack crafts of Project 22800 (named "Hurricane" and "Typhoon") which are presently under construction.

Overall, different Russian shipyards are expected to build more than ten missile boats of the project for the Russian Navy.
