The volume of freight loaded onto/into rail cars across the network of Russian Railways (RZD) between January and April 2016 totaled 395.3 million tonnes, which is 0.9% more compared to the same period last year, the state-owned rail operator said.
In the reporting period freight loaded on the RZD rail network include: coal - 109.8 million tonnes (+ 3.8% compared to January-April 2015); coke - 3.6 million tonnes (-2.5%); crude oil and petroleum products - 79.7 million tonnes (-7.9%); iron and manganese ore - 35.9 million tonnes (-1.5%); ferrous metals - 23.8 million tonnes (-2.7%); ferrous metals scrap - 3.7 million tonnes (-18.2%); chemical and mineral fertilizers - 18 million tonnes (+ 5.3%); cement - 7 million tonnes (-7.9%); timber cargo - 14.5 million tonnes (+ 4.4%); grain - 6.6 million tonnes (+ 13.1%); construction materials - 41.6 million tonnes (+ 21.5%); ore ferrous and non-sulfur raw materials - 6.7 million tonnes (+ 4.9%); chemicals and soda - 8.7 million tonnes (+ 2.1%); industrial raw materials and molding materials - 9.6 million tonnes (-6.1%).
Since January 2016 freight throughput of the RZD network reached 755.8 billion tariff tonne/km (+ 0.9%), traffic volume taking into account unladen car mileage was 970,6 bn t/km (+ 0.8%).
In April, loading of freight on the RZD network totaled 101.4 million tonnes, a 1.6% gain from April 2015. Monthly freight throughput increased by 2.2% y-o-y to 189.6 bn tariff t/km. Traffic volume taking into account unladen car mileage rose 1.9% to 242.9 bn t/km.
