Oil spill occurs at Port Kavkaz
Ship-to-ship diesel fuel transfer operation at Port Kavkaz ended with oil spill on May 2016 (15:40). According to the State Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre of Russia's Transport Ministry the incident occurred when a hose ruptured during diesel oil transfer from Norway flagged SKS TIETE (Owner Kristian Gerhard Sedsen Skipsrederi) to Panama flagged tanker Nave Bellatrix (Owner KOS Shipping Corporation Trust Company Complex).
As the safety rules for STS operation prescribe the tankers were circled with oil containment booms. There were no injuries.
NIS Impulse, a local OSR team responded to the pollution scene. There were three oil slicks on the water (3x3, 3x4, 5x5 meters) and oil recovery ended at 18:30 (Moscow Time). The emergency team used 135 kg of sorbents to collect oil, the Centre's report said.
