Freight volume handled at the Port of Klaipeda, Lithuania between January and April 2016 increased by 9.1% on the same period's figures and totaled 13.29 million tonnes, the Port Authority statistics said.
In April there was a slight 1.1-percent growth in liquid bulk segment, to 1.21 million tonnes. Handling of general cargo also increased by 13.6% to 1,045,000 tonnes, while bulk cargo volume fell 4.4% to 969,041 tonnes.
State-run Port of Klaipeda, the northernmost ice-free port on the East coast of the Baltic Sea, is the largest Lithuanian transport hub, connecting sea and inland traffic lanes. There are 17 stevedore companies, shipyards and other operators at the port, providing a broad range of services. Throughput of Klaipeda port in 2015 (including Butinge Terminal) rose 9% (y-o-y) to 38.44 million tonnes.
