Total freight volume handled in the seaports of Ukraine in January - April 2016 amounted to 43,224,000 tonnes, or a 9.1-percent decline on the previous year's period, the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority said.
Exports increased by 4.2% to 33,609,000 tonnes, while imports dropped by 11.6% to 5,668,000 tonnes.
Transit cargo volume plummeted by 49.8% to 3,576,000 tonnes.
Container traffic at the country's seaports jumped by 18.4% to 198,028 TEUs.
State port operators of the Ministry of Infrastructure Management handled 12,929,000 tonnes (accounts for 30% of total throughput). Other port, terminal operators, predominantly private entities, handled at all berths 30,296,000 tonnes (or 70% of the total). Besides, the port operators (mostly privately owned) handled at the berths managed by USPA 17,302,000 tonnes (40%).
