Throughput of port HaminaKotka (Finland) up 2.1% to 4.56 mln t

In January-April 2016, the Port of HaminaKotka (Finland) handled 4.56 mln t of cargo (+2.1%). According to the port authorities, transshipment of export cargo climbed by 3.9% to 3.4 mln t including 896,900 t of paper (-6%, year-on-year), 519,400 t of cellulose (+12.7%), 729,320 t of liquid bulk cargo (+0.2%), 439,700 t of loose bulk cargo (+717%).

Transshipment of import cargo fell by 3% to 1.55 mln t including 361,600 t of packaged cargo (-12.9%), 161,670 t of dry bulk cargo (-6.1%), 353,100 t of liquid bulk cargo (-12.2%).

Transshipment of transit cargo fell by 3.8% to 1.13 mln t, inland traffic – down 4.7% to 318,880 t.

Transshipment of containers climbed by 16.3% to 220,400 TEUs, transshipment of automobiles – plunged 60.6% to 3,184 units.

The number of calls climbed by 1.1% to 852 calls.

The Port of Kotka is some 50 km from the Russian border, 280 km from St. PeteRSburg and 1,000 km from Moscow. Port of Kotka comprises ports of Mussalo, Hietanen, Kantasatama, berth Puolanlaituri (Polish berth), berth Halla, and also port premises Sunila. Port of Hamina is the eastern port of Finland located 35 km from the Russian border. In 2014, the port handled 13.4 mln t of cargo (-4.2%, year-on-year).
