On May 26, 2016, a new coast guard ship(CGS) named Nadezhny was launched by ALMAZ Shipbuilding Company in Saint-Petersburg .
Saint-Petersburg Governor Georgy Poltavchenko who attended the ceremony said that the ship designed by the Severnoye Design Bureau has a symbolic name (the Russian for ‘reliable’). “With its reliability, efficiency, responsiveness and endurance range the ship is a real threat for border violators,” he said.
Multi-purpose border guard ship of Project 22460 is intended for protection of the state border and the territorial sea as well as for prevention of terrorism and piracy. It is outfitted with modern navigation and communications systems and carries a helicopter.
The Nadezhny will be deployed for operation on the Baltic Sea. The ship’s mooring place will be at the entrance to the Kaliningrad channel opposite the Peter the First monument.
Joint Stock Shipbuilding Company "Almaz" was founded in 1933 as a shipyard of the USSR Coast Guard. Today St. Petersburg headquartered Almaz is a modern enterprise with a long shipbuilding tradition specializing in the construction, conversion, outfitting and repair of high-speed coast guard border patrol vessels and boats, of large and small tonnage ships, of multipurpose hovercrafts, ships and yachts for civil sector both for Russian and foreign customers. The company has two floating docks of 2,500 and 3,000 tonnes in capacity. Since its foundation Almaz has built over 1,000 ships including 500 ships for the Border Service of Russia.
