Fincantieri starts works on the new cruise ship for Holland America Line

The steel cutting ceremony of the bow section of “Nieuw Statendam”, the new cruise ship which Fincantieri is building for the shipowner Holland America Line, a brand under Carnival Corporation & plc, the world’s largest cruise operator, was held today at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Palermo. The new unit will be a sister ship of “Koningsdam”, delivered in March from the facility in Marghera, the company said in its press release.

The section, weighing about 3,900 tons, will then be transported by sea to the shipyard in Marghera, where it will be assembled to set up the entire unit. The delivery of the new vessel is scheduled for end-2018.

As its sister ship, “Nieuw Statendam” will be about 99,500 gross tons, almost 300 meters long, with accommodation for up to 2,650 passengers on board in more than 1,300 cabins. It will be characterized by a modern and contemporary style which perfectly blends with the traditional elegance which distinguishes all the ships in the fleet. The ship’s technology is aimed at optimizing energy efficiency and minimizing environmental impact and it responds to the most demanding and current safety regulations.

Fincantieri has built 74 cruise ships since 1990 and other 21 ships are currently being designed or built in the Group's yards.
