Lithuania has been ranked in 29th place in the Logistics Performance Index (LPI) 2016 released by the World Bank, by jumping up from 46th place in 2014 and overtaking its closest neighbours, says Lithuania’s Ministry of Transport and Communications.
Latvia came in 43rd place (down from 36th place), behind Estonia in 38th place (up from 39th place), Poland in 33rd place (down from 31st place) and Finland in 15th place (up from 24th place), with Russia ranking in 99th place and Belarus taking 120th place. China is two places ahead of Lithuania.
Top ten countries include Germany, Luxembourg, Sweden, the Netherlands, Singapore, Belgium, Austria, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong and the United States of America.
According to the data of the World Bank, the Logistics Performance Index has been compiled since 2007. It is used as a benchmarking tool to help countries identify the challenges and opportunities they face in their performance on trade logistics and what they can do to improve their performance. The World Bank has produced the Logistics Performance Index about every two years since 2007, in 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016.
The LPI ranks 160 countries on their trade logistics performance using six components: customs performance, infrastructure, the arrangement of international shipments, the quality of logistics services, the ability to track consignment, and the timeliness of shipments.
