On July 19, JSC “Latvian Shipping Company” (LSC) in cooperation with the foundation “Vītolu fonds” announced application to scholarship competition for future seafarers, which will take place prior too August 19th 2016, says VN Group in its press release.
The goal of the scholarship is to promote seafaring education and development of the sector in Latvia. The final year students of Latvian higher education institutions with good and excellent grades, who have undergone internship on any ship under technical management of the LSC subsidiary “LSC Shipmanagement” Ltd for at least 4 months can apply for the scholarship.
This academic year total funds of scholarships have increased and will exceed EUR 20’000, providing support for up to 6 students. Each scholarship holder will be granted monthly financial support in the amount of EUR 300 throughout the academic year.

LSC representative Ilze Bērziņa states: “Last year we started scholarship competition of JSC “Latvian Shipping Company” between students of the Latvian Maritime Academy. Seeing the high responsiveness and enthusiasm of students, this year we gladly included in the competition also students of the Liepāja Maritime College, and in total 6 scholarships will be granted this year! The students who received scholarship in 2015 acknowledge that the financial support helped in their daily life and motivated them to reach higher study results. The students are confident that they will have opportunities to use the obtained knowledge in further work. The seafaring sector is developing and there is increasing demand for the educated, high-qualified specialists.”

In order to participate in the scholarship competition, applicants have to submit a filled in scholarship candidate evaluation form, statement of grades with a calculated average grade, description of course of life and a motivation letter in English language until August 19.
