Vladimir Putin gave instructions to look into handing over of some berths to private companies under PPP

RF President Vladimir Putin has given the instructions to look into placement of some berths at seaports under long-term management of private companies through private-public partnership. The proposal was voiced at the Second Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok by Denis Sarana, BoD member at Vladivostok Fishing Port LLC.

“We have considerably deteriorated berths here ... their privatization is impossible, nobody will buy them, nobody will give a rouble for them as more and more investments are required, - Denis Sarana said when addressing the President. – They can be handed over under private-public partnership for 49 years and throughout the 49-year period the private owners will invest, maintain and then return them to the public ownership in a renovated conditions, it is quite workable. As for good ones, they can be just sold which is to bring income and that’s all as half of them is already under private ownership”.

“Let’s arrange it now with instructions to the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East to make proper calculations together with the Federal Property Management Agency and the Ministry of Transport and then report on the results, - said Vladimir Putin. – In general, I think you are right. Why should they go to waste? They should be adequately commercialized and bring income, become an element of the region development”.
