Admiral Makarov University starts training RS inspectors as operators of dynamic positioning system (photo)

Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) is widely involved in projects on the development of offshore fields on the shelf of the Russian Federation. Personnel policy of the classification society is focused on ensuring high competence of its specialists. On September 12 – 16, 2016, Training Center of Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping (Makarov Training Center) trained a group of RS inspectors from the regions with intense development of offshore fields and construction of vessels for oil and gas projects (including Astrakhan, Murmansk, Far East, China, Korea), says press center of Makarov Training Center (MTC).

MTC had developed a special course for RS inspectors – “Training of operators of dynamic positioning systems”. 

“Five days of classroom and practical training at special stands and simulators with real dynamic positioning equipment allowed the course participants make a thorough look into requirements for different classes of DPS, analyze the implications of possible failures of key DPS elements and practice such programmes as on-line diagnostics and functional inspection of DPS during mooring and sea trials, MTC says in its statement. The course was led by experienced teachers of the University and the leading specialists of Navis CJSC, Russia’s only DPS producer. In its turn, Makarov Training Center is Russia’s only internationally certified center for training of DPS specialists.

On June 10, 2016 Russian Maritime Register of Shipping and Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping signed an agreement on joining efforts in training personnel for maritime industry.

Makarov Training Centre of Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping suggests professional educational courses for students and cadets of the University, crews of seacrafts, wide range of maritime and oil&gas industry specialists of Russia, CIS and foreign countries. As of today, Makarov Training Center numbers over 40 types of simulators at its two branches in Saint-Petersburg as well as in Murmansk and Arkhangelsk.

Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) is an internationally recognized classification society, established in 1913. RS is recognized by Maritime Administrations of 71 flag states, including 16 EU members. RS is a full member of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS), which consolidates the world leading classification societies, and associated member of INTERCARGO, INTERTANKO and BIMCO. RS activities are aimed at providing safe navigation, safety of life at sea, environmental pollution prevention.
