Tall ship Mir is the winner of SCF Black Sea Tall Ships Regatta 2016 (photo)

Training tall ship Mir is the winner after three races of SCF Black Sea Tall Ships Regatta 2016, says press center of FSUE Rosmorport.

The Prize Giving Ceremony was held on October 2, 2016 in Varna (Bulgaria). Because of changeable headwind which did not let the race end within the scheduled time the organizers made a decision on early termination of Race 3.

Tall ship Mir of FSUE Rosmorport was the winner of all three races. Tall ship Nadezhda was the second at Sochi-Varna race. 

Tall ship Mir was also awarded for the best contribution to sports activities. Its crew won the volleyball and tug-o-war competitions and was the third in the football championship. 

Special prize was given to tall ship Nadezhda - Ship that has come the furthest from her home port to participate. The ship with more than 100 cadets of Nevelskoy Maritime State University left Vladivostok on June 28, 2016. 

Final results will be announced in several days.

The International Black Sea Tall Ships Regatta 2016 is being held from September 8 till October 4. The largest Tall Ships from 7 countries including Mir, Kruzenshtern, Nadezhda and Khersones tall ships of Russia twice crossed the Black Sea and visited four ports: Constanta, Novorossiysk, Sochi and Varna.  More than 20 training tall ships of different classes participated in the Regatta. About 1,500 young people take part in the event. 

According to tradition, the Regatta is taking place under the patronage of the heads of the participating states.  The Regatta is organized by Sail Training International (STI), Russia’s largest shipping company Sovcomflot (Title Sponsor) and non-commercial organisation Sochi Marine Club with Rosmorport as a General Partner. The event is supported by RF Ministry of Transport, Russian Geographical Society and NOVATEK OJSC. 

On their route the tall ships and their crews spent four days at each city participating in the Regatta. Special programme wass developed for citizens, tourists, crewmembers and guests including the parade of the participants along the main streets of the host cities, the parade of sail, fireworks, rock-concerts, sport competitions and ceremonial receptions for participants and guests of honour.
