Throughput of port Ventspils (Latvia) down 21% to 14 mln t in 9M’16
In January-September 2016, the port of Ventspils handled 14 mln t of cargo (-21%, year-on-year), the port authority says. In September the port handled 1.2 mln t of cargo.
Transshipment via Ventspils Nafta termināls totaled 6 mln t (-23%), via Baltic Coal Terminal - down 49% to 767,000 t (September saw handling of the first vessel in the 5-month period), via Ventspils tirdzniecības osta – down 31% to 1.6 mln t, via Ventall Termināls – down 48% to 525,000 t, via Ventbunkers - down 24% to 1.7 mln t, via SIA Ventamonjaks – down 14% to 326,000 t.
Ventspils Grain Terminal handled 294,000 t of grain. Transshipment via Ventplac increased by 14% to 363,000 t, via Ventamonjaks Serviss – up 9% to 150,000 t, via Noord Natie Ventspils Terminals – up 15% to 1.9 mln t.
Eurohome Latvija commenced operation in April 2016 and handled 199 mln t of cargo. Overseas Estates commenced operation in September 2016 and handled 5,000 t of palm oil.
The Freeport of Ventspils Authority is set to invest 8 mln euros into the development of port infrastructure this year. Part of investment programmes will be financed by the Cohesion Fund of the EU. The works will include dredging, reconstruction of infrastructure facilities and construction of new ones, designing of the industrial area.
Ventspils port is located near Venta river. There are terminals for loading and unloading of crude and oil products, liquid chemicals and fertilizers, metal and coal, timber and fish, containers and Ro-Ro trailers.
