Russia’s Ministry of Transport says it is working towards launching of a ferry line for trucks to escape the routes crossing the territory of Poland. The matter was discussed at the working meeting of Deputy Transport Minister Nikolai Asaul with DFDS management held in the framework of the 3rd Annual Conference “Transport Infrastructure of Saint-Petersburg and the Leningrad Region”.
The meeting was focused on elaboration of a draft memorandum under which Russian carriers will be able to deliver goods without crossing Poland. This will let escape time loss and obtaining of transit permits.
DFDS representatives have expressed their readiness to provide a required number of ferries to meet the demand of carriers operating in Europe.
This line will be interesting for the carriers of European Russia. With quite a big cargo flow to Europe the time-saving will contribute to further development of trade relations between Russia and Europe. It will also let the carriers reduce other expenses through savings on fuel and road toll.
The parties are currently considering the most optimal ports for launching of the ferry line.
According to the statement, the ferry line will let escape transit transportation across Poland amid “unstable policy of Polish colleagues relating to exchange of permits and hindering comfortable operation of Russian carriers”.
