Coast Guard crew tows disabled vessel

The Coast Guard said it had towed a disabled 27-foot vessel with 3 people on board near Southwest Pass, Louisiana, Sunday.

Watchstanders at the Eighth Coast Guard District command center received a report at approximately 9:15 a.m. about a disabled vessel 14 nautical miles southeast of Southwest Pass.

Coast Guard Sector New Orleans was notified by District Eight watchstanders and directed the launch of a Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew, diverted an HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircrew from Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile, and a Coast Guard Station Venice 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew.

The HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircrew spotted the vessel and remained on scene until the MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew arrived. The helicopter crew lowered a handheld radio to reestablish communications. The Station Venice boatcrew arrived on scene to tow the vessel at 1:09 p.m. and moored them to the Venice Marina at 10:02 p.m.
